Introduction: A Postcard from Tangier

In a world of instant messages and social media, few things feel as magical as receiving a handwritten postcard.
If you’re visiting Tangier and want to send a little piece of Morocco to someone special, you’re in for a beautiful and easy adventure!
In this blog, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know — from where to buy postcards and stamps, how much it costs, where to drop your card, and a few insider tips along the way.

Where to Buy Postcards in Tangier

The Medina of Tangier (the old town) is a postcard paradise!
As you wander through its colorful alleyways, you’ll spot postcards hanging outside almost every souvenir shop.
Prices usually range between 5 and 20 Dirhams, depending on the size, design, and quality.

🛍️ Tip: If you want something extra special, look for handmade or vintage-style postcards — they make even better keepsakes!

Where to Buy Stamps in Tangier

Now that you’ve got your postcard, it’s time to find a stamp!

  • Option 1: Souvenir Shops
Some souvenir shops sell stamps too.

  • Option 2: Moul Hanut (مُول الحانوت)
In Morocco, a Moul Hanut is a little shop that sells everything: snacks, toothpaste, batteries… and yes, sometimes even stamps!
(If you’re staying in the Medina, you’ll see them on nearly every corner.)

  • Option 3: The Post Office (Poste Maroc)
If you can’t find stamps at shops, the post office is your best bet.
Plus, it’s a fun mini cultural experience! Some post offices even sell limited edition stamps — perfect if you love collecting unique souvenirs.

How to Send Your Postcard

Once you have your postcard and stamp ready, here’s how to send it:

  • Post Boxes (Yellow Boxes)
While walking around Tangier, keep an eye out for bright yellow mailboxes.
These are official postal boxes where you can drop your postcards.
The postal workers collect the mail daily.

  • At the Post Office
If you prefer, you can simply hand your postcard directly at the post office counter or in the boxes outside the office.
    Post offices are open:
    🕗 Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM
    🕗 Saturday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
    (Closed on Sunday)

How Much Does It Cost to Send a Postcard from Morocco?

Sending a postcard from Morocco is very affordable. The prices depend on where you’re sending it:

  • To Europe, it costs 9.80 Moroccan Dirhams.

  • To Arab countries, it costs 14.50 Moroccan Dirhams.

  • To other parts of Africa, it costs 15.10 Moroccan Dirhams.

  • To the Americas (like the USA or Canada), it costs 16.30 Moroccan Dirhams.

  • To Asia, Australia, and Oceania, it costs 18.10 Moroccan Dirhams.

💡 Tip: Always bring small change when buying stamps at local shops or the post office!

What If You Can’t Find the Exact Stamp?

Sometimes you won’t find a single stamp that matches your postage rate (especially for places like Australia, which costs 18.10 MAD).
Don’t worry — you can just combine two or three smaller stamps.

For example:
If you need 18.10 MAD and only find 8 MAD and 10 MAD stamps, just stick both onto your postcard.
As long as the total value is enough, your postcard will arrive safely.
